Uganda’s Trade Representative to Nigeria and Ghana, Ani Charles BASSEY-EYO, has continued to spearhead efforts to open up new export opportunities for Ugandan products in West Africa. Operating out of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, Bassey-Eyo has been actively showcasing a range of quality Ugandan products to potential buyers and distributors.
Among the products highlighted are Jesa dairy products, Igara tea, Amafh Macadamia oil, and ready-to-drink espresso coffee from JAHL Production Ltd. These items were part of a batch of samples sent by the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) at the start of June 2025. The products have received positive feedback for their quality, taste, and packaging, signaling promising demand in the Nigerian market.
Bassey-Eo, who is also the CEO of LANI Group, appealed for more coordinated efforts in the value chains for maximum results. “Uganda’s export ambitions depend on bold coordination, strategic collaboration, and purpose-built systems. PACEID’s model: integrating regulatory guidance, infrastructure, export finance, and market access, is exactly the type of architecture needed to elevate Uganda’s competitiveness. When every actor from farmer to exporter to policymaker works in harmony, the whole country benefits.”
PACEID Head of Markets Rowena Twesigye is optimistic, saying, “It’s very exciting to witness the growing appreciation for Uganda’s premium value-added products in key regional markets like Nigeria. This momentum affirms the quality, uniqueness, and competitiveness of Ugandan brands on the continental stage. We are proud of the work being done by our Trade Representative in Nigeria and his team. We look forward to scaling up exports to meet the rising demand on the continent and beyond. At PACEID, we remain committed to unlocking new market opportunities and championing Uganda’s trade ambitions.”
Following this introduction, plans are underway to ship larger consignments of these products along with others in high demand. PACEID’s strategy is to secure consistent market access for Uganda’s value-added exports through targeted promotions and partnerships in key African markets like Nigeria. This aligns with Uganda’s broader goal to increase export revenues and create more jobs through industrialization and trade.
